Port of Açu is a finalist for the World Ports Sustainability Awards of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), the largest entity in the sector, representing around 200 of the largest ports and harbors in 90 countries around the world. Açu, located in São João da Barra, in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro, is the only Latin American port in the competition and had its project selected along with 45 other contestants that applied for the award, in different categories.
Açu is running in the Safety and Protection category, with the Emergency Preparedness Project, which highlights the importance of integrated performance in the management of major emergencies and the relevant contribution of ports for an efficient response to incidents with oil at the sea. As connecting points between land and sea, ports are key stakeholders for collaborative response activities, since they concentrate an important amount of resources, work as supply base for operations and then are the ideal place to integrate all parts involved in the emergency management.

The winners of each of the six award categories will be announced on March 18th, during IAPH World Ports Conference in Antwerp, Belgium. The general public will also be able to participate through online voting, which will contribute to 30% of the overall evaluation. About Port of Açu
In operation since 2014 and strategically located in São João da Barra, in the north of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Port of Açu is a 100% private asset and develops a relevant role in the iron ore production export, in the crude oil handling and in the service provision to the O&G offshore market in the country. Açu also has the only private terminal in Brazil for oil double-banking, which is responsible for 25% of Brazilian oil exports and serves the largest oil companies in the country. The largest thermopower park in Latin America is under development in the port. The project includes two plants with 3 GW of capacity, enough to supply energy for up to 14 million residences, and a LNG Regasification Terminal with 21 million m³/day capacity.
