Engineer Carlos Tadeu Fraga will take over in August as Chief Executive Officer of Porto do Açu Operações. This Prumo Logística subsidiary is the operator and manager of the Açu Port Complex, in São João da Barra (Rio de Janeiro state).
With vast experience in the oil & gas industry, in recent years he was the executive leader of DOME (Prumo-GranIHC joint venture), a provider of integrated services to the oil & gas industry through a unit with facilities in the Port of Açu. Tadeu Fraga participated in DOME’s creation in 2016, in the development of its business plan, and headed the beginning of the company’s operations. In June, he will leave his role as executive leader, but will remain in the Board of Administration.
Tadeu Fraga will contribute to the development of the Açu Port Complex and to its consolidation as an O&G hub. “I am very motivated by this new challenge, exploring even more broadly the many business possibilities that the Açu Complex offers to the oil & gas industry and to other industries that we already serve,” he said.
According to José Magela, CEO of Prumo Logística, Tadeu’s new position as a leader of the Port of Açu team is a key move in the company’s growth path. “Choosing a CEO for Porto do Açu Operações is another step to boost the independence and strength of our subsidiaries. Tadeu is a respected professional, with large management experience, and will lead the Port of Açu’s teams expertly. We will always be close, working in synergy for the development of the Port Complex,” he added.
Port of Açu
Located in São João da Barra (Rio de Janeiro state), the Port of Açu has 130 km², split between an environmental preservation area and two terminals, as well as space for facilities of maritime and industrial companies.
The Offshore Terminals handles iron ore and oil. The terminal started operations in October 2014. It exports iron ore for Anglo American and handled 16 million tons in 2017. This terminal encompasses the Oil Terminal (T-OIL), a partnership with Germany’s Oiltanking, with capacity to handle 1.2 mbpd. With 25 meters in depth currently, the terminal can welcome VLCCs and Capesize ships.
The Onshore Terminal is set around a navigation channel with 6.5 km in length, 300 meters in width and up to 14.5 meters in depth. TechnipFMC, NOV, InterMoor, Wartsila, DOME, Edison Chouest and BP Prumo (a Prumo-BP partnership dedicated to selling marine fuel) already operate facilities in the terminal. This terminal encompasses the Multicargo Terminal, with capacity to handle 4 million tons annually (solid bulk and general cargo). The terminal currently handles bauxite, pet coke, coal, general cargo, and more.
