Port of Açu welcomes officials to discuss road access and doubling lanes on BR-356

Matter was discussed by federal and state congressmen, city mayors and councilmen

The Port of Açu welcomed a group of approximately 50 public officials to present the current development status of the port, projects for accessing the enterprise and debate the need to double lanes on highway BR-356, in the stretch between Campos Goytacazes and São João da Barra. The Port Complex was visited by federal congressmen (Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Transportation Committee), state congressmen, mayors and councilmen from the region, in addition to representatives from the National Land Transportation Agency, National Transportation Infrastructure Department, and Federal Highway Police. During the event, José Magela Bernardes, CEO of Prumo Logística, the developer and operator of the Port of Açu, emphasized the importance of expanding the road network for the enterprise and the entire region.

“For a gigantic enterprise such as the Port of Açu, we require broad road and rail access. The project to double lanes on BR-356 is positive not only for São João da Barra, but for every town in the northern part of Rio de Janeiro state, which will benefit from the development of the Port Complex,” said Magela.

The Chairman of the Transportation Committee of the Federal Lower House, representative Altineu Côrtes, made a commitment to schedule a hearing in the Ministry of Transportation to ensure that the duplication project is put into practice.

“Doubling the lanes on BR-356 will be a priority of the Ministry of Transportation and federal representatives. I am certain that this visit is the stepping stone for the logistics improvements that the port needs to better operate and create even more jobs in the region,” he said.

São João da Barra Mayor Carla Machado advocated for political unity. “BR-356 is the main access way to São João da Barra. The duplication project is essential due to heavy vehicle traffic in the city, especially with the considerable increase in the summer related to our tourism potential and the arrival of the Port of Açu. Today, we have important allies in this fight and the presence of federal representatives and other public officials confirms this,” she said.

The Deputy Mayor of São João da Barra (Alexandre Rosa), State Secretary of Agriculture (Jair Bittencourt), Mayor of São Francisco de Itabapoana (Francimara Barbosa Lemos), Mayor of Quissamã (Fátima Pacheco) and state representatives Gil Vianna, Geraldo Pudim and João Peixoto also attended the event, along with other regional officials.
