Prumo signs contract with Euro Urbanismo to build a Convenience Center in the Port of Açu

Construction is expected to start this year and be ready in the first half of 2018

Prumo Logística, the developer and operator of the Port of Açu, released a material fact yesterday reporting the signature of a contract with Euro Urbanismo to create a Convenience Center in the Açu Port Complex. Investment in the project is estimated at 2 million reais, contemplating stores, offices and a medical clinic. The decision follows a partnership celebrated between the companies, announced in October.

The center will have a total area of 8,000 m², with a gross leasable area of 2,000 m², serving the needs of companies and workers in the Industrial Complex. Restaurants, bank branches, maritime brokers, accountants and other services may be provided in the location.

“In addition to meeting current and future demands of workers and companies in the complex, the Convenience Center will create jobs and tax revenues for the municipality,” said Fernando Schuffner, commercial director of the Port of Açu. Companies installing facilities in the center will create about 500 jobs.

“The development of the Açu Port Complex has been attracting more and more companies to the region and it is of utmost importance to have services near the enterprise. The Convenience Center will support such growth,” said Maurício Fonseca, director of Euro Urbanismo. The firm participates in the development of the center in partnership with a group of investors that includes entrepreneurs from Campos dos Goytacazes.

Construction of the center is planned to begin in the second half of this year, so that operations can start in 2018.

About the Port of Açu

The Port of Açu is located in São João da Barra (Rio de Janeiro state) on 90 km², divided into two terminals: Terminal 1 (T1 – Offshore Terminal) and Terminal 2 (T2 – Onshore Terminal), in addition to an area dedicated to facilities installed by maritime and industrial enterprises.

T1 handles iron ore and crude oil, with berths built along 3 km of quayside. Operating since October 2014, the terminal handles iron ore for Anglo American (which operates in Conceição do Mato Dentro, Minas Gerais state), totaling more than 28 million tons so far. Prumo and Anglo American each own 50% stakes in a joint venture named Ferroport. T1 encompasses the Oil Terminal (T-OIL), already operating and with capacity to handle 1.2 mbpd.

T2 is composed of the surrounding area of the canal for navigation, with 6.5 km in length, 300 meters in width and up to 14.5 meters in depth. TechnipFMC, NOV, InterMoor, Wartsila, Edison Chouest and BP Prumo (a partnership between Prumo and BP to sell marine fuel) already operate their own facilities at the terminal.
