The Port of Açu, located in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro, this month carried out its first coffee export operation in big bags. In all, 15,520 tons of arabica and conilon varieties, mainly from producers in the south and east of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo and Bahia, were shipped to Hamburg, Germany, via logistics operator C. “Açu is able to offer customized and efficient solutions to support the strong growth of agribusiness and Brazilian industry. We have a world-class infrastructure to enable the transportation of various types of cargo from the state and we want to help reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of national products,” says João Braz, Commercial and Terminals Director at the Port of Açu.
In 2023, the Port of Açu’s Multicargo Terminal (T-MULT) handled 2.1 million tons, an increase of 33% compared to the same period in 2022. As a fully private port, Açu operates 24/7, with no queues for berthing, offering customized solutions and flexible contracts.
By the end of 2024, T-MULT’s operational quay area will be 500 meters long, with a draft of 13.1 meters, and a second berth to operate two ships simultaneously. The terminal’s handling capacity will reach 2.7 million tons per year. Also considering the expansion of the storage area, it will be possible to double this handling capacity over the next few years, reaching five million tons.
